{"id":92,"date":"2009-03-05T09:54:57","date_gmt":"2009-03-05T15:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nim.nukeitmike.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/05\/migrating-from-dasblog-to-wordpress\/%20"},"modified":"2009-03-05T09:54:57","modified_gmt":"2009-03-05T15:54:57","slug":"migrating-from-dasblog-to-wordpress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.nukeitmike.com\/index.php\/2009\/03\/05\/migrating-from-dasblog-to-wordpress\/","title":{"rendered":"Migrating from DasBlog to WordPress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I don&#8217;t really Blog very much anyway, but that just means, that I want to keep all the entries that I have created over the past 5 years.\u00a0 In moving to a new Blog, I don&#8217;t want to just dump the old stuff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>WordPress is pretty popular with the group I work with, so that is what I decided to go with.\u00a0 The problem&#8230;\u00a0 there isn&#8217;t an importer for WordPress from DasBlog.\u00a0 I did a search and came up with a few good posts, but I am not as knowledgeable as I should be so it took a little work to figure it all out.\u00a0 This is the post that gave me the most help:<br \/>\n<a title=\"http:\/\/www.kavinda.net\/2008\/10\/23\/migrating-from-dasblog-to-wordpress.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kavinda.net\/2008\/10\/23\/migrating-from-dasblog-to-wordpress.html\">http:\/\/www.kavinda.net\/2008\/10\/23\/migrating-from-dasblog-to-wordpress.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is what I did:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Build a server &#8211; I am using Server 2008 x64 Standard\n<ol>\n<li>Install the IIS Role<\/li>\n<li>Install IIS Role Services<\/li>\n<li>Download and install the URL Rewrite Module <a title=\"http:\/\/learn.iis.net\/page.aspx\/465\/url-rewrite-module-configuration-reference\/\" href=\"http:\/\/learn.iis.net\/page.aspx\/465\/url-rewrite-module-configuration-reference\/\">http:\/\/learn.iis.net\/page.aspx\/465\/url-rewrite-module-configuration-reference\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Setup MySQL\n<ol>\n<li>I just went to <a title=\"http:\/\/dev.mysql.com\/downloads\/\" href=\"http:\/\/dev.mysql.com\/downloads\/\">http:\/\/dev.mysql.com\/downloads\/<\/a> and downloaded the latest version.\u00a0 I had a little bit of trouble with the install, because I tried to use a password with quotes in it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Setup PHP\n<ol>\n<li>Again, I just went to <a title=\"http:\/\/www.php.net\/downloads.php\" href=\"http:\/\/www.php.net\/downloads.php\">http:\/\/www.php.net\/downloads.php<\/a> and downloaded the latest version.\u00a0 I believe I had to select the CGI setup, but I don&#8217;t remember for sure&#8230;\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Copy old web site content to new server (I have other things on the site besides the Blog)\n<ol>\n<li>The nice thing about my situation is that I can leave the old stuff in production while I\u00a0 figure out the new stuff.\u00a0 Copying my old stuff over (minus the old Blog) was very simple.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Create web site and point to the directory that I copied over.\n<ol>\n<li>Also, I had to set the default document as index.php for the Blog<\/li>\n<li>Setup URL Rewrite to get &#8220;Pretty URLs&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Export old Blog content\n<ol>\n<li>This was the hard part.\u00a0 I used a utility that I downloaded from <a title=\"http:\/\/code.msdn.microsoft.com\/DasBlogML\" href=\"http:\/\/code.msdn.microsoft.com\/DasBlogML\">http:\/\/code.msdn.microsoft.com\/DasBlogML<\/a> to convert my posts to BlogML.<\/li>\n<li>Then I used\u00a0 the import module that I got from <a title=\"Download BlogML to WordPress Import Module\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kavinda.net\/content\/other\/BlogML-WordPress-Import.zip \">http:\/\/www.kavinda.net\/content\/other\/BlogML-WordPress-Import.zip <\/a><\/li>\n<li>The import leaves a handy little permalinkmap.csv file.\u00a0 I used Excel and Notepad to change it up a little bit to make lines that looked like: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nukeitmike.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/18\/ldquoFailedToSetEventLoggingrdquoErrorWhenLoggingIntoCitrixApps.aspx,http:\/\/nim.nukeitmike.com\/Blog\/2009\/02\/18\/failed-to-set-event-logging-error-when-logging-into-citrix-apps\/\">http:\/\/www.nukeitmike.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/18\/ldquoFailedToSetEventLoggingrdquoErrorWhenLoggingIntoCitrixApps.aspx,http:\/\/nim.nukeitmike.com\/Blog\/2009\/02\/18\/failed-to-set-event-logging-error-when-logging-into-citrix-apps\/<\/a> look like &lt;add key=&#8221;\/2009\/02\/18\/ldquoFailedToSetEventLoggingrdquoErrorWhenLoggingIntoCitrixApps.aspx&#8221;
