{"id":67,"date":"2006-11-01T20:36:17","date_gmt":"2006-11-01T20:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nukeitmike.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/01\/SkipTheWww.aspx"},"modified":"2006-11-01T20:36:17","modified_gmt":"2006-11-01T20:36:17","slug":"skip-the-www","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.nukeitmike.com\/index.php\/2006\/11\/01\/skip-the-www\/","title":{"rendered":"Skip the &#8220;www&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>I wasn&#8217;t familiar with how to get a website to repsond without the &#8220;www&#8221; in front, and when I went to do searches on it, I wasn&#8217;t too happy with the results.&nbsp; So, I am creating this entry just to remind me how to do this simple little task.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>To get a website to respond to&nbsp;the &#8220;domain.com&#8221; and the &#8220;www.domain.com&#8221;, using&nbsp;Windows 2003&nbsp;Server for DNS and for&nbsp;IIS, the following are the steps to take:<\/P><br \/>\n<P>1.&nbsp; add a host header for &#8220;domain.com&#8221; and &#8220;www.domain.com&#8221; in IIS.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>2.&nbsp; add an &#8220;A&#8221; record for &#8220;domain.com&#8221; and &#8220;www.domain.com&#8221; in DNS.&nbsp; (Note:&nbsp; You can use an Alias(CNAME) for the &#8220;www&#8221; entry instead of a Host(A) record, but you have to enter an A record for &#8220;domian.com&#8221;.)<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&nbsp;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&nbsp;<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wasn&#8217;t familiar with how to get a website to repsond without the &#8220;www&#8221; in front, and when I went to do searches on it, I wasn&#8217;t too happy with the results.&nbsp; So, I am creating this entry just to remind me how to do this simple little task.
