{"id":186,"date":"2009-05-05T13:41:51","date_gmt":"2009-05-05T18:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nukeitmike.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/05\/dpm-v-3\/%20"},"modified":"2009-05-05T13:41:51","modified_gmt":"2009-05-05T18:41:51","slug":"dpm-v-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.nukeitmike.com\/index.php\/2009\/05\/05\/dpm-v-3\/","title":{"rendered":"DPM v 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just watched a webcast on DPM v3 and thought I would share some of what I got from that.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In the last 18 months, DPM 2007 (v2) delivered application protection for Exchange ,SQL Server, SharePoint and virtualization environments running Virtual Server and Hyper-V.&#160; Disaster recovery with Iron Mountain, Local Datasource Protection and Client backups have also come out through DPM 2007, its first feature update and Service Pack 1.&#160; Now it is time to show what is coming next for DPM.&#160; <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A few top line items are support for the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> support for Exchange 14, and more granular restore<\/li>\n<li>protect the entire SQL instance, and auto discover new DB\u2019s<\/li>\n<li>protect 1000\u2019s of DBs per DPM server<\/li>\n<li>End User Recovery by the SQL Admin (role based access from the DPM console)<\/li>\n<li>Office 14 <\/li>\n<li>AD appears as a data source in DPM UI <\/li>\n<li>Image restore from centrally managed DPM server \u2013 executed locally<\/li>\n<li>Support for Windows guest on VMware hosts<\/li>\n<li>SAP running on MS SQL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>and some other improvements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>up to 100 servers, 1000 laptops, 2000 databases per DPM server<\/li>\n<li>management pack updates<\/li>\n<li>automatic re-running of jobs and improved self-healing&#160; &#8212;&#160; This is a huge one in my book<\/li>\n<li>auto protect new sources for SQL and MOSS<\/li>\n<li>improved scheduling capabilities<\/li>\n<li>one click DPM DR failover and failback<\/li>\n<li>continued support for SAN (scripts\/whitepapers)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>platform requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DPM Server must be 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2<\/li>\n<li>Integration capability with Windows EBS 2008 R2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just watched a webcast on DPM v3 and thought I would share some of what I got from that.
